Biography My name is Mica May. Since 1990 I have worked with families going through the most severe forms of crisis, teaching Child Development and Parenting Skills and also working as a Therapist and Play Therapist, all within the Voluntary Sector. After
a few years parents began to approach me independently for help and advice. In response to this need I set up a coaching service for parents struggling with how to do the best for their children and like most, feeling they were not doing a "good enough" job. I've worked with families going through almost every situation, from "naughty children", parents who rarely see their children because of long working hours or separation, through the trauma of the separation process and recovery from that. It was great that working therapeutically with children and their families created visible changes, but I felt that there was a lot more I could do for a much greater number of parents. I was
frustrated that I was only working with families at the "thin end of the wedge" and wanted to be able to help greater numbers of families by working with them before things had gone so far. I
genuinely believe that being a parent is the most important job in the world and I find it shameful that parents are left to work everything out for themselves; feeling bad because they aren't able to be perfect (and perfection is actually impossible).
In today's complex world parents are required to cope with challenges our own parents and grandparents rarely faced. More and more I became aware that often, parents struggle simply from lack of support. I became determined to do something about this. Since
2003 I have been working independently offering my support and experience to families going through the changes of separation, divorce and of combining families., more recently and due to demand I have extended this to parents who want to work to prevent a separation from happening. My
work is based on my own experience of almost 20 years plus the behaviour management techniques developed by US psychologist Dr Carolyn Webster Stratton and in the UK The Parenting Pyramid .
Both these approaches have been thoroughly researched with more than 1,500 families for 20 years, in order to develop the most effective strategies. My own extensive experience enables me to tailor-make a programme of work to assist your family with whatever you are going through.
